My Story

I have always loved performing. Whether it be belting out golden age musical theatre tunes, improvising a scene, or acting in a play, I think there is something thrilling and healing about expressing oneself through theatre. I've been performing for as long as I can remember. From the moment I could walk and talk, I was forcing my parents to watch the (very, very long) plays I gleefully made up and performed in the living room.

After receiving a Bachelors in Fine Arts from Ithaca College in Musical Theatre, I performed in different shows at theaters around the country as well as singing and dancing in the musicals onboard a Disney Cruise Ship. I've studied improv and sketch comedy at Upright Citizens Brigade and performed on one of their house sketch comedy teams at their NYC theater.

I also love working with children. For the past three years, I've taught at Park Avenue Synagogue's congregational school with children from kindergarten to 6th grade. I bring my theatre and improv training into my teaching by incorporating improv games and performance opportunities for the kids and embodying the general attitude of "yes-and" with my students. It has been remarkable to see the positive impact of self expression through theatre on all of the kids, regardless of their abilities or challenges.

I believe that performance through singing, acting, and improv offers us a way to connect with the deepest parts of ourselves as well as the world around us. Stepping into another character's shoes can teach us empathy. Improvisational skills can teach us to go with the flow. Singing can help us learn to express our emotions through music. I have such a deep appreciation for all of the tools that theatre has to offer and am passionate about sharing those tools with children.

In teaching, I believe in meeting each child where they are and working in a way that highlights each student's unique strengths and interests. In acting lessons and classes, I will work with the student on short-form improvisation skills through fun, silly games. We will also work on performance through dramatic storytelling. This could be through voice and movement work as well as through monologue and scene work for older kids. For voice lessons, kids will have the opportunity to sing their favorite songs. This could be classic children's tunes, folk, jazz, rock, and musical theatre. For older kids, we will work on breath work, resonance, musical stylings, as well as tips to minimize performance anxiety.
